What is a generative AI agent, and how is it different from a chatbot?

A generative AI agent is a system that can take multi-step action toward a goal, such as retrieving information, calling other systems and proposing or executing next steps, rather than only answering a single question. A chatbot typically responds to one prompt at a time. An enterprise agent needs to be grounded in trusted internal data, constrained by clear guardrails on what it can and cannot do, and positioned so a person can review or override its actions where the stakes are high.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

We ground responses in your verified enterprise data rather than relying on the model's general knowledge alone, and we build review steps for higher risk actions so incorrect or low confidence outputs are caught before they cause harm.

This depends on the use case, but typically includes your internal documentation, policies, product and customer data, and relevant records from systems like SAP, Salesforce or ServiceNow, always subject to the access controls already in place for that data.

The goal is to remove repetitive lookup and drafting work, not judgment. Agents are scoped to handle well defined tasks reliably, while decisions with meaningful consequences are routed to a person for review.

Both are possible. Some agents are read only and simply retrieve and summarize information. Others are authorized to take defined actions, such as updating a record, within limits your team sets and can audit.
